Clitoral hood reduction

Excess skin on the clitoris area often causes the clitoris look enlarged. The causes of excess skin on the clitoris area (clitoral hood) can be: genetics, estrogen, and testosterone exposure can make significant changes in the way the clitoral area appears. Some women are bothered by the size of the clitoral hood and the clitoris shaft or head. It may cause phychological discomfort for them.

Clitoral hood reduction is an elective plastic surgery procedure for reducing the size and the area of the clitoral prepuce in order to further expose the clitoris; the goal is to improve the aesthetic look and sometimes the sexual functioning of the woman as well.

During the surgery the excess skin on the clitoris area is removed. The procedure takes 30 minutes to perform. Often when reducing the sides of the clitoral hood, labia minora reduction is performed. Clitoropexy – the correction of the head of the clitoris – is not so common surgery, but may be recommended as well.

There is minimal risk of nerve injury or sensation change.
