The DermaRollerTM is unique medical devise. The DermaRoller TM had obtained CE approval and US FDA approval. Recently DermaRoller TM device had been introduced in Europe with impressive results. DermaRollerTM therapy can significantly improve the appearance of problematic areas.
Dermabrasion, laser resurfacing and non-ablative laser resurfacing had produced hope in acne scar treatment, but these treatments are often complicated, expensive and giving inconsistent results.
Therapy idea is a medical roller that is manufactured with many small high quality micro-surgical precision needles mounted around the rolling device. These tiny needles are rolled over the area to be treated and will pierce the skin to a depth of 0.75mm to 3mm and aproximatelly 0,1mm in width columns into the dermis. DermaRoller TM works by producing thousands of microscopic needle columns in the dermis of the skin. The tiny needles mounted in the roller cause an initial trauma and wound healing response within the dermis and this in turn encourages new collagen formation to the areas treated.
The procedure is almost pain free as we anaesthetise the skin with anaesthetic (EMLA) cream. It will take up to 30 minutes for the cream to be effective. The procedure itself will take a further 20-30 minutes.
Immediately after the procedure your skin will have the appearance of a moderate sunburn and it may feel tighter and warmer than usual. There can be mild to moderate facial edema for few days. After treatments, the bleeding is controlled with light pressure with sterile gauze, followed by the application of a skin recovery cream and a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. In 1-2 hours this will subside and will normally recover the same day with only slight redness on the second day. Immediately after the procedure the skin closes up and all you will experience is redness resembling mild to moderate sunburn. Usually the post treatment pain is minimal. The wounds close rapidly – often on the same day.
After care treatment you will be advised to use tepid water within the first 48 hrs to cleanse the face . You must ensure that your hands are clean prior to touching the skin. No make up to be applied for 12 hrs post procedure. A broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with SPF50 should be applied for 2 weeks following your treatment. Oral antibiotics are prescribed for several days in some cases.
The production of collagen occurs for up to 6 weeks after the treatment so visible signs of improvement will not be immediate. After six months follow up the clinical severity scores decreases. The number of sessions needed will depend on the severity of the problem you are looking to address. Usually it ranges from 3 to 4 at 6-8 weeks interval.
Complications are rare and transient, sometimes developes post treatment folliculitis (which responds to oral antibiotics), hyperpigmentation.
You can undergo Dermaroller therapy at home, but if you entrust your skin to a professional it will definitely receive appropriate treatment. If a patient chooses this treatment to be done by a doctor, a professional selection of the optimum therapy, careful preparation of the skin for the treatment and sterility during the treatment will be guaranteed for the patient.
The universality and effectiveness of Dermaroller therapy yet more increases if used in conjunction with various mesotherapy serums. Special substances, chosen individually for each patient according to the need and request, access the dermis through micro needled columns. This therapy helps alleviate the following problems: black areas and pouches under the eyes, sagging facial skin; corrects skin pigmentation, improves the body skin tone, etc.
