Treatment of hyperhydrosis
Hyperhydrosis is excessive sweating. Sweating is one of the most important ways in which the body loses heat; however, people with hyperhydrosis produce sweat in amounts far greater than needed to control their temperature. Hyperhydrosis is caused by over activity of one type of sweat gland, the eccrine gland. Many things can trigger normal sweating and this is also true for hyperhydrosis – it’s just the amount of sweating that’s different. Examples include:
• Exercise
• Stress, anxiety or strong emotions
• Heat or cold
• Certain times of the day
• Alcohol, coffee or tea, smoking or spicy food
People with hyperhydrosis can produce a large amount of sweat. This means that the armpits may be constantly damp. This can cause embarrassment at work or socially, and it may make normal everyday activities more difficult to carry out.
Dysport/ Vistabel is recommended for the treatment of hyperhydrosis. When small doses are injected into the skin, Dysport/ Vistabel blocks the actions of the nerves that supply the eccrine glands: this prevents the glands from producing sweat.
Using a very fine needle, you will be injected with a small amount of solution of Dysport/ Vistabel into 10 to 15 places about 1 cm apart and spread evenly in each armpit.
You should notice some change for the better within the first week after your treatment. Your next treatment can be given when the effects of the first course wear off: this usually happens after an average of 7 months.
Different people have different responses to treatment. In a clinical trial, the average reduction in sweat production on week after treatment was 87% and sweating was reduced by at least half in 95% of patients.
Considering patient’s physical state and health and seeking maximum safety our plastic surgeons:
- will not perform procedures to pregnant or breastfeeding women
- will not perform procedures more often than every three months.
As we age the skin of our hands becomes thinner as a result of fatty tissue and water loss – the hands look aged and the skin is translucent and sagged with veins apparent on it. These problems give away a person’s age and most women are willing to mask them as effectively as possible, thus remaining younger and more self-confident for a longer time.
The skin of the back of the hands may be rejuvenated by applying various aesthetic non-surgical treatments that can be prescribed and performed only by skilled specialists.
Our Clinic offers patient-tailored aesthetic treatment solutions to suppress or mask ageing processes:
- Skin fillers (collagen, hyaluronic acid), which smooth out wrinkles and increase the tissue volume in the places where the skin has become thinner and sagged. It is the most common technique used to rejuvenate the skin of your hands as the application of the aforementioned preparations produces the best and longest-lasting results (up to two years);
- Platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy whose main advantage is that no extraneous substances are used during the procedure, but only the patient’s blood. Two treatment sessions with a break of 2 to 3 months are recommended. The results become gradually visible in 3 to 5 weeks and can be expected for up to 18 months;
- Dermabrasion or chemical peel is a mechanical or chemical superficial peel of the skin during which dead skin cells are removed. These techniques are not highly efficient for the treatment of deeper lines. To achieve optimum results, after the treatment it is advisable to use age-fighting creams;
- Wrinkle removal injections (botulin toxin preparations Dysport®/ Vistabel®) – one of the best-known techniques for smoothing out emotional facial lines, which can be equally successfully applied for the aesthetic correction of the back of hands;
- Dermaroller treatment or mesotherapy, which helps the skin to regenerate and recover the former moisture and nutrition. If applied in combination with special serums, yet better results can be achieved. It is recommended to repeat this treatment several times per year.
It is perfectly normal for our bodies to sweat as we engage in physical activity, experience anxiety-inducing situations, or even simply just go about our daily lives. However, some individuals experience an excessive amount of perception that may make them feel uncomfortable.
Hyperhidrosis is characterized as excessive perspiration, which can either be localized to a specific area of the body or occur all over. For hyperhidrosis treatment the clinic offers botox injections, which is really an effective method for solving this problem.
In addition, axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating that occurs in the armpit region of the body) may be cured surgically as well. The procedure for curing axillary hyperhidrosis involves a process much like liposuction, which is used for the removal of excess fat in areas such as the abdomen or hips. The difference is that with hyperhidrosis liposuction, the cannula opening is directed toward the surface of the skin where the apocrine and eccrine glands are located. Thus almost a third of the sweat glands in a concentrated area are removed.
This axillary liposuction is a performed under intravenuous anesthesia and takes from 30 minutes to one hour. Usually only two small incisions are made under each arm so scars are minimal and barely visible. Patients are discharged from the clinic after 1-2 hours after the procedure and can resume normal physical routine the next day. Some patients experience skin irritation which disappears over time; numbness in underarm areas can last for several weeks.
It is a safe, minimally invasive method of axillary hyperhidrosis treatment. Permanent results of this procedure show a very high success rate (can reduce sweating up to 80% or more).
It is used for treatment of atrophic scar, acne scars; aged and sun damaged skin; facial and décolletage lines and wrinkles; stretch marks. Acne vulgaris is one of the most common skin disease, leaving atrophic scar. DermaRollerTM therapy for atrophic scars, acne scars, aged and sun damaged skin, facial and décolletage lines and wrinkles, stretch marks.
The DermaRollerTM is unique medical devise. The DermaRoller TM had obtained CE approval and US FDA approval. Recently DermaRoller TM device had been introduced in Europe with impressive results. DermaRollerTM therapy can significantly improve the appearance of problematic areas.
Dermabrasion, laser resurfacing and non-ablative laser resurfacing had produced hope in acne scar treatment, but these treatments are often complicated, expensive and giving inconsistent results.
Therapy idea is a medical roller that is manufactured with many small high quality micro-surgical precision needles mounted around the rolling device. These tiny needles are rolled over the area to be treated and will pierce the skin to a depth of 0.75mm to 3mm and aproximatelly 0,1mm in width columns into the dermis. DermaRoller TM works by producing thousands of microscopic needle columns in the dermis of the skin. The tiny needles mounted in the roller cause an initial trauma and wound healing response within the dermis and this in turn encourages new collagen formation to the areas treated.
The procedure is almost pain free as we anaesthetise the skin with anaesthetic (EMLA) cream. It will take up to 30 minutes for the cream to be effective. The procedure itself will take a further 20-30 minutes.
Immediately after the procedure your skin will have the appearance of a moderate sunburn and it may feel tighter and warmer than usual. There can be mild to moderate facial edema for few days. After treatments, the bleeding is controlled with light pressure with sterile gauze, followed by the application of a skin recovery cream and a broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen. In 1-2 hours this will subside and will normally recover the same day with only slight redness on the second day. Immediately after the procedure the skin closes up and all you will experience is redness resembling mild to moderate sunburn. Usually the post treatment pain is minimal. The wounds close rapidly – often on the same day.
After care treatment you will be advised to use tepid water within the first 48 hrs to cleanse the face . You must ensure that your hands are clean prior to touching the skin. No make up to be applied for 12 hrs post procedure. A broad spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen with SPF50 should be applied for 2 weeks following your treatment. Oral antibiotics are prescribed for several days in some cases.
The production of collagen occurs for up to 6 weeks after the treatment so visible signs of improvement will not be immediate. After six months follow up the clinical severity scores decreases. The number of sessions needed will depend on the severity of the problem you are looking to address. Usually it ranges from 3 to 4 at 6-8 weeks interval.
Complications are rare and transient, sometimes developes post treatment folliculitis (which responds to oral antibiotics), hyperpigmentation.
You can undergo Dermaroller therapy at home, but if you entrust your skin to a professional it will definitely receive appropriate treatment. If a patient chooses this treatment to be done by a doctor, a professional selection of the optimum therapy, careful preparation of the skin for the treatment and sterility during the treatment will be guaranteed for the patient.
The universality and effectiveness of Dermaroller therapy yet more increases if used in conjunction with various mesotherapy serums. Special substances, chosen individually for each patient according to the need and request, access the dermis through micro needled columns. This therapy helps alleviate the following problems: black areas and pouches under the eyes, sagging facial skin; corrects skin pigmentation, improves the body skin tone, etc.
Dysport®/ Vistabel® (Botox®) injections have enjoyed huge popularity among those who desire conservative treatment of face and forehead lines. Dysport®/Vistabel® (botulinum toxin of type A) injections work well for wrinkles which appear on the forehead, between the brows and in the eye-corners (the so-called crow’s feet). Botulinum toxin blocks the transfer of a nervous impulse within muscle synapses and temporarily relaxes muscles into which it is injected. The effectiveness of Dysport®/Vistabel® injection depends on the type and thickness of your skin and the degree of visibility of wrinkles. Possible results will be explained to you by a plastic surgeon.
The area of injections can be anaesthetised with anaesthetic cream. Using a thin needle the preparation is injected exactly into the target points by relaxing only those muscles which are responsible for the formation of wrinkles without changing the expression of the face. Even though some specialists also make injections into the lower part of the face we are avoiding this due to a risk of paralysis of the facial muscles.
24 hours after the therapy our patients are recommended to avoid heavy physical strain, and refrain from using the solarium or sauna. The result does not become visible right away and lasts from 3 to 6 months depending on the area of wrinkle smoothing. Contractions of the selected muscles normally disappear within 3-5 days. Upon expiry of the preparation’s effect the injection can made once again.
At the presence of localised wrinkles in the upper part of the face this therapy smoothes the skin, helps delaying facial rejuvenation surgery and evaluate possible results after it, and does not produce any side-effects as these doses are very small for the human organism.
Considering patient’s physical state and health and seeking maximum safety our plastic surgeons:
– will not perform procedures to pregnant or breastfeeding women
– will not perform procedures more often than every three months.
Hyaluronic acid preparations are quite a new technique of treatment and rejuvenation. The hyaluronic acid is one of the main natural components of the skin. Skin bounce and smoothness are disappearing with age: the most sensitive areas become sunk, there appear wrinkles and the face seems tired. The most important quality of this substance is to moisten and smooth the skin, which makes the facial contour more attractive.
Restylane® /Juvederm Ultra® are the fillers of hyaluronic acid of non-animal origin which help eliminate the signs of skin ageing (roughness and wrinkles) by increasing the volume of the tissue and maintaining the structure of the skin.
You can get rid of deep wrinkles and narrow lines. Hyaluronic acid injections will help you to refresh your face or emphasise the plumpness of your lips. The result is quick and obvious, while the skin has a natural look, becomes smoother and more elastic.
Advantages of hyaluronic acid therapy:
- Simple procedure which lasts 15-30 minutes
- Effect directly on the problem area
- Immediately visible results
- Long-term effect (6-18 months)
- Minimal possibility of a side-effect
